SAR for 5 Sabah boat tragedy victims enters 34th day

KOTA KINABALU: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for five more victims of the tour boat tragedy in Sabah waters enters its 34th day today.
Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Sabah and Labuan maritime commodore Mohd Zubil Mat Som said the operation covered the waters off Sabah, Miri (Sarawak) and Brunei.
"The search operation involved eight assets, of which three are from MMEA, one from the Royal Malaysian Navy, three from the Marine Police and one from the Brunei security agency," he said in a statement here today.
In the tragedy on Jan 28, the catamaran carrying 28 tourists from China and three crew to Pulau Mengalum was believed to have capsized in strong winds and huge waves.
Twenty-six of the victims were found, of whom four died. — Bernama
