Businessman jailed 8 years and fined for bribery

JOHOR BARU: A businessman was jailed eight years and fined RM20,000 or six months imprisonment in default for bribery at a Session court here today.

In passing the sentence, Session court judge Mohd Fauzi Mohd Nasir said, the defence had failed to raise any reasonable doubt after calling three witnesses.

Lim Wee Kwang, 56, from Batu Pahat was charged under Section 17 (a) MACC Act 2009.

He was said to have committed the bribery on Jan 14, 2015 around 7.45pm at 52, Jalan Sepat, Taman Banang, Batu Pahat, by offering RM2,950 cash as an inducement to Inspector Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Nor to let him go for possession of drug and live ammunition , when the latter and other policemen raided his house.

According to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Deputy Public Prosecutor Ridzuan Abd Malik, six witnesses was called to testify in court.

Lim was represented by lawyer Sukhaimi Mashud.
