Penang records 324 dengue cases as of Feb 25

GEORGE TOWN: Penang has recorded a total of 324 dengue cases as of Feb 25 according to State Health, Agriculture and Agro-based and Rural and Regional Committee chairman Dr Afif Bahardin.
He said this was a 73.29% reduction compared to the same period in 2016 where 1,213 cases were recorded.
He said the state currently has three areas where the disease was uncontrolled comprising Mutiara Idaman, Pesiaran Besi and Taman Machang Bubok.
"There are four deaths from dengue as of the eighth week of this year," he said today in a press conference with Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
Afif said the aim was to get dengue cases and the number of deaths down to zero if possible.
He urged the public to play their part by ensuring their surroundings were free from mosquito breeding grounds.
Lim meanwhile urged those feeling unwell to seek medical treatment immediately.
"Go to a doctor," he said.
Lim earlier presented RM100,000 to Penang Health Department director Datuk Dr M. Sukumar for awareness activities.
Sukumar said the funds would be used to spread awareness on dengue.
"Our activities is focused on changing the behaviour of the people to address dengue through community participation," he said.
