KUALA LUMPUR: The Badminton Association of Malaysia's (BAM) Special Project will receive the full commitment and support of world number one shuttler, Datuk Lee Chong Wei and his two coaches.
BAM deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria said the project would help Chong Wei prepare for the World Championships in Scotland in August and give him a chance to share his experience with five sparring partners comprising national junior singles players.
"Chong Wei knows that the BAM has a two-pronged approach. BAM always supports and helps him, including providing everything necessary for him to prepare for the World Championships.
"However, Chong Wei must be committed to help the five sparring partners become more competitive and produce a high standard among the junior players.
"I think Chong Wei understands his responsibility, and so do coaches Hendrawan and Tey Seu Bock," he told reporters.
The Coaching and Training Committee had previously agreed to appoint Hendrawan as head of the project, assisted by Seu Bock and Chong Wei.
Besides Chong Wei, the five other players involved in the project are Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin, Soong Joo Ven, Chong Yee Han, Soo Teck Zhi and Lim Chi Wing.
It will be implemented until the end of the World Championships, without involving BAM technical director, Morten Frost Hansen.
Mohamad Norza added that Chong Wei's five sparring partners should take full advantage of this opportunity to improve their performance. — Bernama
