WHILE selling pre-loved products and gadgets online may seem profitable, it does come with a dangerous price.
One woman learnt that the hard way when her iPhone 7 which was put up for sale on an online marketplace ended up being stolen instead.
A Facebook user by the name of Jazira Salwa Sehak recalled how she decided to sell her 128GB iPhone 7 online as she needed money to pay the deposit on a new home.
She put up her phone for sale on a popular online marketplace and soon after, received a call from an interested buyer. The buyer was even willing to pay a deposit to indicate he was serious about the purchase.
Jazira and her husband arranged to meet the man at a restaurant. According to her, the buyer seemed friendly and trustworthy and even called a friend of his using her phone to test it out.
After checking the phone, the buyer claimed he forgot to withdraw money from the ATM to pay the deposit. He then called his sibling over the phone, with instructions to withdraw the money on his behalf.
When his sibling arrived with the money, he calmly walked over to the car, while still on the phone, as Jazira's husband followed closely behind.
All of a sudden, the buyer jumped into the car and the vehicle sped off. Alarmed, Jazira said her husband tried to chase the car to no avail.
Fortunately, her husband managed to take down the vehicle's number plate and the couple later lodged a police report over the incident.
Jazira's Facebook post, which included photos of the 'buyer', has since gone viral. She said she took to Facebook to share the incident as a warning to others.
Here's a short clip posted on Jazira's Facebook showing the 'buyer' talking on her phone:
