Remand order of couple over dead Indonesian maid extended

GEORGE TOWN: The remand of a couple to facilitate investigations into the death of their Indonesian maid in Jelutong here has been extended by another six days, beginning tomorrow.
Northeast district police chief ACP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the remand extension on the couple, aged 42 and 48, were to allow the police to complete their investigation.
"The couple was detained on Feb 26 and their remand ends today. Police have obtained the order to extend their remand," he said when contacted by Bernama here today.
Mior Faridalathrash said another maid to the couple, a 22-year-old Cambodian, was being remanded for 14 days after she was detained on March 1.
On Feb 25, the 38-year-old maid reportedly fell from the staircase of the double-storey house at about 12.45 midnight. She was found lifeless about 11.50am the same day.
Last Thursday, Penang police chief Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye was reported as saying based on police investigation, the woman died of abuse. — Bernama
