KOTA KINABALU: Police have refuted claims that two would-be rapists picked on the wrong woman and are now lying in a coma in hospital.
Penampang police chief DSP Rosley Hobden said the "news" that went viral on social media is false.
Earlier, Kota Kinabalu police chief ACP M. Chandra had told theSun that no such report had been lodged on the incident.
According to a Facebook posting on "Kelab Info Malaysia" page, the victim, identified as Alice Lim Lien Hua, said she felt she was being followed by two men on a motorcycle.
She then pulled over to let them pass but instead they stopped and told her to wind down her car window.
The men demanded money and one man pulled her hand and tried to drag her into the bushes.
The other man then tried to grab her bag.
The Facebook page added that the woman not only fought off her attackers but also injured them so badly that they are now lying in coma in the hospital.
The Facebook posting added that passersby stopped to help Lim and contacted the police.
The two men were reportedly illegal immigrants.
It said the suspects were taken to a local hospital in Luyang while the victim went to file a police report at the Kota Kinabalu police station.
After Kelab Info Malaysia shared the news, it was widely shared on social media that Lim is a martial arts expert who has represented Sabah.
