Sunway Pyramid escalator has been misused: Management

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sunway Pyramid management today claimed that the shopping mall's escalator had been misused prior to yesterday's mishap which caused a gash on the calf of a female shopper's leg.
The management, in an official statement today said investigation found that the escalator had been misused including by baby strollers, thus showing lack of etiquette as contributing factors to aggravating the incident.
"The management of the mall together with OTIS and the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) have examined various sources and will continue to work with the relevant authorities," said the statement.
The incident which has gone viral on the social media showed the victim sitting beside an escalator with a bad gash on her calf while friends were seen consoling her.
The 20 year old student was recovering well in a nearby hospital.
"The mall will introduce unipoles at all escalator take-offs and landings to curb strollers, trolleys, wheelchairs or any form of similar items from the escalator.
"The management would like to remind all escalator users to follow the rules such as to face forward and stand between the yellow lines instead of leaning against the moving handrails," said the statement. — Bernama
