MACC accepts king's decree, intensifies efforts to fight corruption

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will continue intensifying effort to fight corruption, misappropriation and power abuse as decreed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V.
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad said the agency also pledged to take those involved to justice.
"As the only enforcement agency entrusted with the responsibility to fight corruption in the country, the MACC will ensure that His Majesty's decree will be fulfilled," he said in a statement here today.
Sultan Mahmud V, in his speech at the opening of the first meeting of the fifth term of the 13th Parliament at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, expressed his disappointment over the fact that misappropriation, corruption and leakage of confidential information still persisted involving civil servants and former civil servants alike.
His Majesty said although only a few of those civil servants committed the offences, it still managed to shake public confidence in the government.
Dzulkifli said the MACC accepted the King's decree as a challenge to be more committed in fighting corruption efficiently.
Hence, he hoped that all Malaysians, especially civil servants, would work closely with the MACC to fight corruption without any compromise. — Bernama
