PETALING JAYA: Maybank will be the first bank in Malaysia to offer its female employees maternity leave of up to a year with variable pay.
Maybank Group chief human capital officer Nora Manaf said employees will retain the existing 90-day maternity leave period with full pay but will be able to apply for an additional three months with half pay, and another six months with no pay.
Nora said this will allow female employees to cope with the demands of motherhood, finding a good work-life balance, and to be able to perform effectively when they return to work.
She added this shows the bank's commitment to diversity, inclusiveness, and family-friendly work policies.
"This policy is part of many initiatives that Maybank has invested in over the years to create a meaningful and exciting workplace experience for employees to successfully thrive, empowering them to integrate work and life seamlessly," Nora said in a statement today.
She also said that this will not constitute a break in employment for the person and she will retain all medical and insurance coverage in accordance with the employee's benefit grade.
Nora added that the extended maternity leave policy joins Maybank's past initiatives to improve employee welfare including a sabbatical leave policy of up to 24 months, flexible work arrangement, its Tiger Child Care Centre, lactation rooms, gym for women, and many more.
