Man dies, seven others hurt in accident in Lipis

KUANTAN: A man was killed while seven others were injured in an accident involving a Perodua Myvi car and a van at KM8 Jalan Lipis-Merapoh, yesterday afternoon.

Lipis OCPD Supt Azry Akmar Ayob said that in the accident at 5pm, the Perodua Myvi driver, Ahmad Fazeli Muhammad, 38, died on the spot due to serious head injury.

"The van carrying seven people including the driver was travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Kerai, Kelantan and upon arriving at a corner near the scene of the accident, the driver was believed to have lost control of the vehicle and veered to the opposite lane.

"At the same time, the vehicle driven by Ahmad Fazeli coming from the opposite direction did not have time to evade and collided with the van," he said when contacted by Bernama, here today.

As a result of the accident, Ahmad Fazeli died on the spot, while the van driver sustained severe injuries on the feet.

Meanwhile, six other passengers who were Indonesian nationals sustained light injuries.

Ahmad Fazeli's body was later taken to the Gua Musang Hospital, Kelantan for autopsy while all the other victims were also taken to the same hospital for treatment. — Bernama
