A bad day for dirty cops

PETALING JAYA: A total of 14 policemen, including an assistant superintendent of police (ASP), were charged under Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commissions Act 2009 at various courts today for alleged offences committed between 2013 and 2016.
In KUALA LUMPUR, ASP Mohamad Zafrul Zulkifli, 37, and three lance corporals were charged before Sessions court judge Allaudeen Ismail for soliciting bribery.
Mohamad Zafrul and lance corporal Mohamad Hasirun Abu Hassan, 29, were charged separately for asking RM2,000 cash and RM1,500 cash, respectively, from Kway Phone Naing, as an incentive to release Nang Cherry, who is suspected of possessing a false UNHCR card.
Lance corporals Mohd Saffuan Mat Salleh, 31, and Muhammad Huzzaini Esman, 29, were jointly charged with obtaining RM1,500 cash, from Kway, as an incentive to release Nang.
All the offences were allegedly committed at a car park behind Hotel D'Majestic Place, 376, Jalan Pudu, between 6pm to 7.30pm on Jan 28, 2016.
The four accused claimed trial to the charges and the next mention date is April 12.
The judge allowed Mohamad Zafrul to be released with a bail of RM15,000 in one surety while the three others were granted bail of RM10,000 in one surety.
In another court, Corporal Azuan Khalid was charged with asking RM3,000 from Mohd Shahrunizad Sahar, 31, as an incentive to release three Indonesian employees, Algufron, Rudiana and Murtadji, for not having valid passes.
On the second charge, Azuan Khalid and Corporal Zulazri Idris claimed trial to agreeing to receive RM1,500 from Mohd Shahrunizad, as an incentive to release the three Indonesian employees.
The offences were allegedly committed on Dec 15, 2015 at Toll Plaza Batu, KM 3.0, Duta-Ulu Kelang Highway (Azuan's first charge) while the second charge was allegedly committed at a car park for disabled persons next to Maybank Berhad, Section 5, Jalan Wangsa Delima.
Azuan also was faced with another charge of obtaining RM500 cash from Mohd Shahrunizad for the same purpose at NZ Curry House, Wangsa Maju at about 2.50pm on Dec 17, 2015.
Sessions judge Azura Alwi granted RM10,000 bail for Azuan and RM5,000 bail for Zulazri, respectively, and fixed March 30 for mention.
Constable Mohd Hafis Hafizi Azhari, 25, and Corporal Abd Rahim Yusak, 59, were charged with allegedly asking for RM1,500 from Alif Faisal Amran as an incentive to settle a traffic summons which was issued to him for driving with an expired road tax and no insurance coverage and for not detaining Mohd Hariz Zaifan Mohd Zanua, who was on police wanted list.
Abd Rahim faces a separate charge for receiving RM100. Both the offences were allegedly committed at Jalan Kuching at about 2.10am on Sept 28, 2013.
Mohd Hafis was also charged with agreeing to receive RM500 cash from Alif as an incentive to settle a traffic summons and as a payment for not detaining Mohd Hariz, at a restaurant at Wangsa Maju at about 10pm on Sept 30, 2013.
Sessions Court judge Madihah Harullah granted bail of RM7,000 in one surety, for each, and fixed April 10 for mention.
In KOTA KINABALU, four policemen pleaded not guilty to eight counts of soliciting and accepting bribes at the Corruption Court today.
The eight charges read out involved transactions amounting to RM43,500.
Judge Abu Bakar Manat allowed bail for all four but asked them to surrender their passports.
The pre-trial case management has been set for April 26 for all four accused.
In GEORGE TOWN, a policeman was charged at the Sessions Court today with two counts of soliciting and receiving gratification two years ago.
For the first offence, Muhammad Hafizuddin Hasan was charged with soliciting RM15,000 to RM20,000 as bribes from Abdul Ghani Ismail, 47, allegedly for his senior officer in settling a Prevention of Crime Act case for a Ridduan Ahmad, 43.
Hafizuddin was accused of committing the offence on April 8, 2015 at the Southwest district office in Balik Pulau. He was charged under Section 16(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
For the second offence, Hafizuddin was accused of receiving gratification of RM30,000 from Abdul Ghani Ismail on April 15, 2015. He was charged under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
Both offences are punishable under Section 24 of the same Act which carries up to 20 years jail and fine not less than five times the amount of the bribe taken or RM10,000, whichever is higher. Hafizuddin pleaded not guilty to both charges.
Sessions Judge Roslan Hamid allowed bail at RM10,000 with one surety for each offence. He set April 7 for mention.
In SHAH ALAM, a corporal pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court to two counts of corruption involving RM500 last year.
Yusairi Mohd Khairuddin, 31, was charged with soliciting RM500 from Tofayel Md Mosharap for driving a car without valid licence in Taman Ria Semenyih in June 2016.
On the second charge, the accused was charged with accepting RM500 from the same individual through Samul Haque Md Atiar Rahman for not taking action against offenders driving without a valid license near a grocery shop in Taman Semenyih Ria.
He was charged under Section 16 (a) B and Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009
