Housewife charged with murder of Indonesian maid

GEORGE TOWN: A 42-year-old housewife has been charged with the murder of an Indonesian maid last month.
No plea was recorded from Chan Lay Lee at the magistrate's court here for the charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Chan was charged with the murder of Jubedah, an Indonesian, at a house in Lebuhraya Jelutong between 11am to 4.45pm on Feb 25.
Magistrate Mohamad Amin Shahul Hamid fixed May 11 for mention.
Earlier at the sessions court, Chan claimed trial to voluntarily causing grievous hurt to a Cambodian maid using an iron rod.
She is alleged to have committed the offence between July 26, 2016 to Feb 25 this year at the same place.
The offence under Section 326 of the Penal Code is punishable with a 20-year jail term and a fine or whipping.
Session Judge Irwan Suainbon fixed May 11 for mention.
Deputy Public Prosecutors Nurul Huda Idris and Nurul Fatin Hussin appeared for the prosecution at the sessions court and magistrate's court respectively.
Chan was represented by counsel A. Rueban Kumar.
