Ali urges civil servants to find ways to complete late projects

MIRI: Civil servants responsible for monitoring the implementation of projects must seek prompt solutions to complete those which are late.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa (pix) said government projects, whether implemented via direct negotiations or open tenders, should be completed on time as they were for the people.
"Critical projects, for example, for the Education and Health Ministries must be given prompt attention as the people need them," he said in his speech at the Miri Hospital Association of Wives of Civil Servants and Women Civil Servants (Puspanita) visit programme today.
Dr Ali, who is also Puspanita advisor, said the attitude of contractors who cited lack of financial resources as the factor in project delays must be tackled quickly by the civil servants concerned in monitoring a project.
"The contractors never accept blame for the delay of their projects but I want such projects to be completed through other methods," he said.
He said civil servants could communicate with the Public Service Department (JPA) director-general Datuk Seri Zainal Rahim Seman to discuss solutions for problematic government projects.
On his visit to the Miri Hospital, he urged the Health Ministry to study the work method at the hospital to ensure housemen did not experience extreme stress at work.
"The majority of housemen I met were happy working at Miri Hospital. Maybe, the method here can be emulated by other hospitals nationwide to tackle stress," he said.
Earlier, Sarawak Health Department director Dr Jamilah Hashim said there was an urgent need to fill over 400 vacant positions for doctors.
Puspanita today handed over welfare contributions totalling RM50,000 to Miri Hospital, six welfare homes, four handicapped civil servants and 16 government retirees. — Bernama
