Govt should explain North Korean participation in MM2H, says former diplomat

PETALING JAYA: The government should provide an explanation on how almost 200 North Koreans were able to participate in the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme since 2014, says former diplomat Datuk Noor Farida Ariffin.
Surprised by the North Korean participation in the MM2H, Noor Farida said the matter is a great cause for concern.
"I think Malaysians generally are not just curious but appalled at the sheer lack of wisdom on the part of our Home Ministry in allowing visa-free travel to Malaysia for North Koreans.
"This is normally done on the basis of reciprocity. But how many Malaysians are interested in touring a country like North Korea?"she asked.
Speaking to theSun today, Noor Farida also questioned the security vetting by the police as part of the MM2H programme, claiming that North Korea is known to send spies to other countries.
"Our authorities appear to have a lax attitude towards our country's security. This is unacceptable," she added.
