'Sebenarnya.my' launch a timely move, says MIC Youth Chief

IPOH: The launch of an information verification portal known as "sebenarnya.my" is timely and the right move to check the authenticity of news on an issue which spreads like wild fire, said National MIC Youth chief Datuk C. Sivarrajh.
He added there were many fake news circulating around and the rakyat can verify whether its true or not by going into the "sebenarnya.my".
He said although the fake news trend is a global phenomenon, people should know the truth.
"The time has come for the rakyat to know and understand the authenticity of any news posted in the social media. It's good to have an information verification portal," said Sivarrajh, adding that the portal will act as a check and balance platform to examine fake news which are very common and rampant in the country.
In Malaysia, he said, the trend has also made a hit whereby Internet users are duped into believing and disseminating fake news within a stroke of the keyboard.
The Communications and Multimedia Ministry in collaboration with Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) launched the portal yesterday for public to check and report news items which have not been authenticated.
