Company manager, girlfriend to hang over death of three-year-old son

JOHOR BARU: A company manager and his girlfriend were sentenced to death after they were found guilty of killing the manager's three year old son.
Mohd Imran Mohd Ramly, 34, and his girlfriend Norhidayah Mamid, 30, were living together before the son's death.
Both were convicted for causing the death of Muhammad Aqeef Adam Mohd Imran, at an apartment in Bandar Putra, Kulaijaya between midnight Dec 16 and 6.45pm Dec 19, 2013, under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah in passing the death sentence said although there was no direct evidence of someone seeing the incident, the case is based on circumstantial evidences, since the two were the only persons taking care of the boy at the time of the incident.
He said, the boy's death was due to head injuries from a blunt forced object.
According to the facts of the case, the two accused had told an imam that the boy suffered from asthma.
However, the imam became suspicious when he noticed marks of beating on the boy's body.
The post mortem also showed the boy had suffered trauma for three months.
The prosecution called 13 witnesses while the defence had six witnesses.
DPP Nor Iffa Zarilla Abd Rahman prosecuted the case while the second accused was represented by her lawyer Shahruddin Osman. The first accused was unrepresented.
