GEORGE TOWN: Bilateral trade between Canada and Malaysia is growing said Canada's High Commissioner to Malaysia Judith St George.
She said trade has been growing modestly in the last couple of years and was largely favouring Malaysia by 3:1.
"Trade amounted to almost to RM11 billion in 2016," she said during a press briefing at G Hotel Kelawai today.
She said several Canadian companies have shown an interest in setting up their business in Malaysia especially in Kuala Lumpur.
"For example, Sun Life Financial Inc, a Canadian-based insurance company has grown from a zero workforce a few years ago to almost 1,000 today," she said, adding that these are the kind of investors that are coming into Malaysia to set up their business.
She had earlier attended a Canadian Cleantech seminar at the hotel with Canadian industry players.
The seminar was organised by the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service and was led by St George in promoting Canada as an innovative, reliable and preferred cleantech partner.
Cleantech or clean technology refers to technologies that maximise the use of resources and reduce or eliminates negative environmental damage.
