MOH to crackdown on unauthorised dental clinics

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry will take action against unauthorised dental clinics based on complaints by the public.
Health Ministry Senior Director (Dental Health) Datuk Dr Noor Aliyah Ismail said this is because the ministry does not have a special unit to monitor
unauthorised dentists and clinics.
"So we urge the public who know of the existence of such clinics to lodge a report with the dentistry department, so that we can take action," she told reporters after attending the opening ceremony of the national-level Oral Health Promotion with Religious Bodies at the National Mosque here.
Noor Aliyah also advised the public to look for professional certificates on display when visiting dental clinics.
"If there is no practising certificate, there's a chance that there might be something wrong with the dental services provided," she said.
Noor Aliyah also dismissed claims that people prefer to go to unauthorised dental clinics as it is much cheaper.
She said services and prices offered by authorised dental clinics is based on the quality, and the experience of the dental practitioners.
Last year, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's son-in-law Datuk Syed Alman Zain Syed Alwi died following a dental procedure at a clinic in Bangsar.
