KUALA LUMPUR: Two men were detained for allegedly extorting RM2,000 as protection money from workers conducting road repair works at Jalan Hospital, Sungai Buloh, yesterday.
Sungai Buloh district police chief Supt Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said in the 1.40pm incident, the workers, including a supervisor, were working when the suspects approached them.
"The suspects told the workers to inform their employer to make the payment, although the work to be carried out there took only six hours," he said when contacted here today.
He said following an inspection on the suspects' car, police found a machete and seized the weapon.
Further checks revealed that the suspects had previous record for extortion, he added. — Bernama
