Bukit Beruntung drowning: Two more found drowned, three still missing

KUALA LUMPUR: Two more children were found drowned at about 10pm while three more are still missing after they were swept by strong currents in a river near the Sekolah Kebangsaan Cina (SKC), Bukit Beruntung yesterday.
According to Selangor Fire and Rescue Operations assistant director, Mohd Sani Harul, the victims were identified as Mohd Ikhwan Mohd Ridhuan, 10, and Mohd Aiman Fitri Md Asmadi, 12.
He said Mohd Ikhwan was found at 9.47pm while Mohd Aiman at 10pm.
"They were found close to each other and we are hoping that the other three missing victims will be found soon.
"The operations to look for the other three missing victims is being continued tonight until they are all found," he told reporters at the location.
Aged between 10 and 13, the children were said to have been fishing by the bank when they fell into the water.
A search and rescue team comprising 11 firefighters and 12 policemen was sent to the scene after a distress call was received at about 5.44pm.
One boy managed to save himself, while the bodies of siblings Shahrizat Abdullah, 12, and Shahrizwan Abdullah, 10, were found drowned at 6.44pm.
Police have widened their search for three more children who went missing while fishing in the river near the school in Kampung Timah here, to five kilometres.
Hulu Selangor District Police Chief Supt R. Supramaniam said the search operations will be continued tonight.
"Right now, the water level in the river is low and this will make it easier for the search operations. We hope the other three victims will be found tonight," he said.
Meanwhile Hulu Selangor Member of Parliament Datuk P. Kamalanathan, who is Deputy Education Minister who was present at the location, also extended his condolences to the families of the victims. — Bernama
