JOHOR BARU: The Home Ministry will not entertain the appeal from Disney to pass Beauty and the Beast without cuts, said Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed (pix).
"The film will not benefit our nation because we have our own culture ... definitely LGBT is not our culture," he said today, in reference to a four-minute long "gay moment" in the film which had been cut by Malaysia's Film Censorship Board.
He said Malaysia is a small market for Disney and the film giant will not lose money if the film is not in the Malaysia market.
"Now Disney wants to challenge Malaysia, with the attitude that if you don't pass the scene, we won't release the film," he criticised.
Nur Jazlan pointed out that if China or Russia made the same demand, Disney would follow because it has a big market there.
On Thursday, Disney had lodged an appeal with the Home Ministry to overturn its decision and release the film without cuts.
