DAP get GE14 machinery rolling

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang DAP got their 14th General Election machinery rolling today, in conjunction with the party's 51st anniversary.
Entitled "Securing Future of Penang" (Menjamin Masa Depan Negeri Pulau Pinang" the event was held at Komtar, this morning.
Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow (pix) in his speech, said that the state had successfully brought changes in development and peace in the state since coming to power in 2008.
"We are confident and want to work together with Penangites in order to secure Penang's future in the upcoming GE14.
"We want to let people to know that they do not need to feel confused or worry over the future of Penang as we have proven with the current state government, our ability to secure the future.
"We want to let Barisan Nasional (BN) and its allies know that Pakatan Harapan (PH) has a vision for Penang and we are ready to work hard to realise it," he said.
Also present were DAP Secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, Penang DAP deputy chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo, Penang Youth chief Foo Yu Keong, PKR president Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and other state DAP leaders.
About 700 DAP members in the state attended the state party election machinery.
Chow, who is Penang Local Government, Traffic Management and Flood Mitigation exco, added they would be focusing on four aspects, including the right of the state under the Malaysian Constitution; unity and harmony; good governance and economic development, in order to secure Penang's future.
"Besides, we also will focus on the development of religious, cultural, social, education, gender and other aspects. It is because the state's future will be neglected without these," he said.
Meanwhile, DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang, in his speech, called for a reset in national policies.
He said Malaysia must "reset" our national policies ahead of the 60th National Day to keep to stay relevant.
"We should abandon things which have caused Malaysia to lose out to countries who were behind us, both politically and economically six decades ago," he said.
