Agong reminds young officers to be proactive in planning future of Malaysian armed forces

KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V (pix) today reminded young military officers to be proactive in helping to plan for the future of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), in tandem with current developments.
The King said this was because in the new millennium, new forms of threats began to be felt during the process of globalisation.
"As military officers with a degree, I hope you will be more capable in facing the future challenges of your career and with full confidence and a high level of resilience.
"Efforts to increase know-how and military knowledge should be continuous to enable yourselves to be sensitive to the current defence technological developments."
The Agong said this at the passing-out parade and commissioning of ATM cadet officers and graduate officers at Camp Perdana Sungai Besi, here, today.
The King also reminded the young ATM officers to have good values and character to prevent from being influenced by unhealthy elements.
The dignity and image of the armed forces could be adversely affected by the actions of a few officers who lacked morals and trustworthiness, he said.
The Agong said that being equipped with the foundation in the military profession, the ATM young officers should be ready to continue the military tradition of willing to sacrifice for religion, people and the country's sovereignty.
"As we all know, the military profession is a unique career. This career emphasises two important elements, namely military skills and professional expertise in various fields like engineering, science, management and strategy.
"The combination of these two elements will have an impact on efforts to enhance the country's defence capability. I am confident that with the knowledge acquired, you will be able to contribute to the shaping of a credible and respected armed forces," the King said.
At the ceremony, Sultan Muhammad V presented the commissioning letters to 339 cadet officers from the Military Training Academy who completed their training within four to five years, while pursuing their studies for the bachelor's degree at Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia. — Bernama
