KEMAMAN: After three years of delegating to Kemaman Umno deputy chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek the task of officiating Umno Wanita, Youth and Puteri branches cluster meetings, former Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said finally attended the opening of the meeting last night.
Ahmad, who is also Kijal assemblyman, when met by reporters expressed gratitude for the strong support received from the delegates who still wanted him to lead the Umno Kemaman division.
He added that he would continue to work hard to ensure victory for Umno in the state especially in the Kemaman parliamentary constituency in the coming general election (GE).
"Earlier in my speech, I asked the Umno Kemaman members if they still wanted me in Umno or the opposition, it was obvious they still needed me to lead the Umno division.
"Such was the trust and voice of the delegates to ensure Ummo will not be defeated again in the coming election," he said.
When asked about Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi praising him for continuing to support Umno Terengganu now being chaired by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman, inspite of an earlier misunderstanding, he said:
"My principle is simple, if people are kind and nice towards me I will treat them even better," he said.
Commenting on the list of GE14 candidates, Ahmad said he wanted the Umno Kemaman to make the selection themselves to ensure victory for the party.
"We will discuss over it first, when we are ready with the list I will submit it to the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Abd Razak) myself," he said. — Bernama
