Opposition forms GE14 pact in Sarawak

KUCHING: Sarawak DAP, Sarawak PKR and Parti Amanah Negara Negri Sarawak (Amanah Sarawak) today announced the formation of a coalition called "Pakatan Harapan Sarawak", in preparation for the coming 14th general election (GE14).
Coalition spokesman Chong Chieng Jen, who is Sarawak DAP chairman, said they had also concluded negotiations for seat allocation.
"The agreement is each party will contest the parliamentary seats it previously contested in GE13.
"Amanah will get seats contested by PAS," he said at a joint press conference.
Also present were Sarawak PKR chairman Baru Bian and Amanah Sarawak chairman Fidzuan Zaidi.
"There may be some variation but that will be subject to mutual agreement between the parties involved.
Chong, who is Bandar Kuching member of Parliament and Kota Sentosa state assemblyman, added the three parties had also set up a secretariat consisting of two representatives from each party.
He said the coalition would likely contest in all 31 parliamentary seats.
Baru said he would not likely be a candidate in the coming elections but added that Sarawak PKR was not short of qualified candidates. – Bernama
