KUALA LUMPUR: The downpour in the capital this afternoon led to 11 major roads to be affected by severe flash floods, said Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Operations Centre chief Samsol Maarif Saibani.
He said heavy rains which occurred in stages from about 3pm affected Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Pahang, Jalan Kuching, Jalan Damansara, Jalan Maarof, Jalan Dutamas and Jalan Duta.
"Other roads affected were part of Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, Jalan Putra, Jalan Masjid India, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman where there was congestion, but manageable," he said when contacted.
Meanwhile, Samsol Maarif said firemen had to use two pumps to suck water out of the basement of Wisma Teck in Jalan Tun Perak which was inundated up to 2.1m.
In addition, he said the basement of the Bank Muamalat building here was also filled with water up to 1.2m high, affecting about 15 vehicles.
On the cause of flash floods, Samsol Maarif said one of the factors was that the SMART Tunnel was not closed to traffic to release water, and there was 60mm of rain in just about an hour. — Bernama
