Kidnapped woman freed after RM10m ransom paid

JOHOR BARU: A 26-year-old woman who was kidnapped about three weeks ago here was freed on Saturday after her family is said to have paid almost RM10 million to a group of abductors for her safe return.
It is learnt that police solved the case a day after the woman was released last week after arresting seven suspects.
The victim was kidnapped and taken across border before being kept in captivity in Batam, Indonesia while negotiations for her release between her family and the kidnappers took place.
It is unknown who the woman is but she was released after S$3 million was paid up, a ransom sum believed to be the highest ever in kidnapping cases reported in recent years.
Details of the case are sketchy and it is believed that Johor police will reveal more in a press conference this week.
Federal police CID director Commissioner Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh when contacted by theSun, confirmed the case but declined to divulge further details.
It is also learnt that the case was jointly solved by Malaysian and Indonesian police.
