NATASHA Qisty Mohd Ridzuan scored straight As in SPM recently, but instead of being congratulated for her achievements, she was condemned instead.
The SPM top scorer from Tunku Kurshiah College (TKC) in Negeri Sembilan scored A+ in all nine subjects and became the centre of attention when she was interviewed by a reporter at her school.
The interview clip uploaded on Facebook went viral, with many congratulating her and commenting on the 18-year-old's good looks. But the compliments stopped there.
Many netizens were quick to point out that she spoke English with a foreign accent and even criticised the way she pronounced certain words in Bahasa Malaysia.
Others chastised Natasha for wearing "thick makeup" to collect her results.
One Facebook user said her excellent results were meaningless as straight As did not guarantee that she would be able to secure a job. "Maybe your looks will get you a job," the comment read.
Nevertheless, many Malaysians came to Natasha's defence and criticised the naysayers for their narrow-mindedness.
She should be celebrated for her academic excellence and not belittled for her appearance, they stressed.
