KUALA LUMPUR: World-renowned harpist Catherine Michel captivated over 300 visitors at a concert, 'My Life with the Harp by Catherine Michel', staged at Malaysia Tourism Centre (MaTiC) here last night.
Performing for the first time in Malaysia, Michel who had been playing the musical instrument for more than 50 years and regularly receives invitations to give masterclasses worldwide, was excited to share her love for music.
"It is an honour to share everything about harps, my teachers always remind me to learn it very quickly, learn the variety pieces of harp and this needs discipline.
"My wish is to extend this to the younger generation so anyone can play harp in future," she said during the show.
During the concert, Michel who is from Amiens, France performed nine songs including Cadence de Lucia Donizetti, Sonate in F by F. J Naderman, Etude en la majeur by Bochsa and Impromtu by Gabriel Faure.
Meanwhile, The Harp Academy Malaysia director Khor Jee Fei said the event was organised to inspire Malaysians to be successful in the music industry at the international level.
"This is one of the education processes; we want to develop and introduce the harp to Malaysians as not many people in our country play it," she told Bernama after the event.
