'Superman' Hew on four-day remand over FB post

KULAI: Former DAP member Hew Kuan Yau, popularly known as "Superman", has been remanded for four days to facilitate investigation into an allegedly offensive Facebook post against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
Magistrate Ahmad Farid Ahmad Kamal granted the remand under Section 233 (1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Hew is being investigated under the act for improper use of network facilities with the intent to annoy, abuse or harass another person.
If found guilty he could be fined up to RM50,000 or one year's jail, or both, upon conviction.
Hew, 47, had allegedly made the post on March 15.
According to his lawyer Chan Kheng Fai, Hew was arrested at his office at the Asia Comic Cultural Museum in Komtar at about 1.20pm yesterday.
He was transferred to Kulai Police station from 11pm on Monday night, and arrived here about 4.30am.
