RM100m allocated to assist hardcore poor students

KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry has allocated RM100 million to assist more than one million poor and hardcore poor students throughout the country.
Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan (pix) said the allocation was provided through Tabung Kumpulan Wang Amanah Pelajar Miskin.
However, he did no elaborate on the type and period of the assistance to 1,061,381 students who came under the two categories.
He was replying to a question from Budiman Moh Zohdi (BN-Sungai Besar) in the Dewan Rakyat today.
On other matters, Kamalanathan said 1,216 schools in the country had implemented the Dual Language Programme so far.
Replying to a question from Datuk Mohd Idris Jusi (PKR-Batu Pahat), he said 587 were primary schools and 629 secondary schools and that the programme was implemented based on parents' choice and willingness of the schools concerned to implement DLP. — Bernama
