SEPANG: Police have solved a three-year-old horrific triple murder case involving a 64-year-old grandmother, her grandson and baby granddaughter at their house in Dengkil, near here.
Sepang deputy district police chief Supt Baharudin Mat Talib said following the arrest of a suspect on March 1, two suspects were arrested on March 4 in Dengkil and Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi.
"One of the suspects is a 55-year-old man while the remaining suspect was in his 20's.
"The district Criminal Investigation Department team picked them up between 2.30pm and 9.30pm," Baharudin told a press conference, adding that investigators never gave up hope on solving the case.
On March 1, a local man in his 20's, who lived a few doors away from the home of the victims in Taman Dengkil Jaya, was arrested after DNA profiling by forensics police matched the suspect and investigators went looking for him before a relative of the man revealed his whereabouts.
Police said the suspect had links to the case after a DNA test showed a match from samples retrieved from the crime scene by forensic police personnel more than three years ago.
Baharudin added that revenge was the motive behind the gruesome murder.
"The two suspects were charged on March 14 with murder while the third suspect, the 55-year-old man, was released on police bail," he added.
theSun reported on March 1 that the assailants had gone to the home of the grandmother, known only as Jayanthi, on Aug 28, 2013, to settle an issue with her grandson.
However, minutes later, an argument broke out between the assailants and her 21-year-old grandson.
It is learnt that when the man was attacked, Jayanthi tried to intervene but was slashed to death by the killers.
Her grandson was then killed before the assailants slit the toddler's throat.
As there were no signs of forced entry or robbery at the house, police initially pointed at revenge as the possible motive for the killing and the assailants were known to the victims.
Earlier, Baharudin had overseen the disposal of 1,700 computer parts used in illegal gambling premises.
They were seized during 1,200 raids conducted from January 2015 to December 2015.
A total of 331 people were also arrested in the raids.
