PETALING JAYA: DRB-Hicom Bhd’s wholly owned subsidiary Composites Technology Research Malaysia Sdn Bhd (CTRM), is investing RM93.4 million in its expansion plans, to meet future volume demand for Airbus aircraft parts it manufactures.
The expansion plan entails the construction of a new building known as the B6, at its manufacturing facility in Malacca, for which RM39.5 million will be spent on the construction of the building and RM53.9 million to be channelled towards capital expenditure.
The two-storey building erected on a 7-acres plot will have a 130,000 sq ft manufacturing area and will house major equipment such as autoclave machines, one unit of the non-destructive testing machine, three units of computer numerical control machines and one spray paint facility as well as offices and other facilities.
“When operations commence in 2018, the B6 will enable CTRM to meet increased demand for the A320 and A350 components. It will be able to raise A320 component output by 26% to 63 aircraft sets per month, the company said in a statement.
“For the A350, component production can be raised by more than 60% to 13 sets monthly upon the transfer of operations to the B6,” it added.
The commercial and military aircraft parts manufacturer, plans to produce the wing trailing and leading-edge components of the A320/321, and the J-nose for the A350 at the new facility.
Construction of the new premises began in January 2017 and is expected to be completed in April 2018.
