THE Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF) has opened applications for the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation – Sunway Scholarship, which funds undergraduate education for deserving students to study in top-ranking universities locally and abroad. Prospective students may submit their applications online at https://jeffreycheah.foundation from now onwards. Applications close on May 17.
“Education is a powerful tool that empowers individuals to make changes in their lives and for others. At the same time, it should not be something that belongs only to the privileged few.
“We encourage everyone to take a chance at an opportunity for their future,” said Jeffrey Cheah Foundation administrator, Jane Poh.
In its sixth year, the JCF-Sunway Group scholarship offers the opportunity of quality education to enrich and improve lives for deserving Malaysian students. Undergraduate scholarships offered cover a wide range of courses within the fields of engineering, business, management and health sciences. Applicants will be assessed based on academic merit and financial need, and shortlisted applicants will be contacted for interview.
Through the unique not-for-profit structure of the Foundation, operating surpluses from the ownership and governance of the Sunway Education Group are ploughed back into its institutions or disbursed as scholarships, research grants and expansion of faculty and facilities to ensure sustainable and quality education in perpetuity. In 2016, a total of RM56 million worth of scholarships were awarded, the highest annual disbursement in the history of JCF.
To date, in excess of RM270 million has been disbursed in scholarships and awards to thousands of deserving students. Recipients of the JCF – Sunway Group scholarship have attended prestigious universities, which include the University of Cambridge, University of Oxford Sunway University and Monash University Malaysia.
