PETALING JAYA: The press screening and premiere of the 'Power Rangers' movie to be held tonight will proceed as scheduled, unless advised otherwise, a TGV spokesperson told theSun.
Grace Tan, marketing manager of TGV Pictures Sdn Bhd, said: "The film is under Censorship Board review. As it is still under review, we are unable to comment about its current status.
"However, management has decided that we will be proceeding with our scheduled movie events, until we are informed otherwise by the Censorship Board."
She was speaking about a press screening and film premiere that is to be held tonight at Sunway Velocity Mall, Cheras.
'Power Rangers', a reboot of the popular US superhero television series that has been running since the late 1990s, recently ran into controversy following a statement by its director Dean Israelite that it would be featuring a gay character.
Yesterday, Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz appealed to the Film Censorship Board not to ban 'Power Rangers', saying: "I don't think adults will be influenced by the so-called lesbian scene in the movie.
"But the board can issue a PG13 rating if it is worried about children being influenced."
Cleared for Screening
As of 3pm today, theSun was informed by a TGV spokesperson that the 'Power Rangers' movie was cleared for Malaysian audiences by the Censorship Board. The movie would be released as scheduled on March 23, 2017 with a PG13 rating and no cuts.
GO GO POWER RANGERS!
