H5N1: JPVK disposes off 35,999 fowls and 14,330 eggs until yesterday

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Veterinary Services Department (JPVK) disposed off 35,999 fowls and 14,330 eggs in an operation to eradicate the bird flu (H5N1) epidemic in the state until yesterday.
The JPVK said in a statement that in addition, 3,392 samples had been taken from 571 owners in six districts affected by the epidemic.
"Six districts, namely 14 locations in Kota Bharu, Pasir Mas (six), Tumpat and Pasir Puteh (three each) while in Tanah Merah and Bachok (one each), were affected by the epidemic.
"So far, no new location had been detected to have been infected by the epidemic," the statement said.
The Kelantan government had declared the bird flu (H5N1) epidemic as a state disaster on March 15 after several fowls in the village died of the epidemic in Kampung Pulau Tebu, Tunjong here on March 6. — Bernama
