Police nab Sri Lankan for robbery, attempted rape

JOHOR BARU: The police have detained a Sri Lankan suspected to have been involved in a robbery and attempted rape in Tampoi.
The 38-year-old suspect was nabbed by a police team about 6.30pm on Monday while walking at Jalan Padi 1 — the scene of the two crimes — in Bandar Baru UDA, Tampoi.
North Johor Baru district police chief, ACP Mohd Taib Ahmad said two police reports were lodged against the suspect.
He said the first report on Sunday was from a 51-year-old female factory production operator while the other was from a 27-year-old woman on Monday.
"The first victim was robbed of a cellphone, RM80 and a bank card after she got off a bus in Bandar Baru Uda on Sunday to go to work. She was also assaulted in the incident.
"The suspect was alleged to have attempted to rape the second victim on Monday while she was waiting at a bus stop.
"She was rescued by passers-by," Mohd Taib said in a statement here today.
The suspect has been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations. — Bernama
