SIX years after the original miniseries chronicling the lives of America's most famous family, The Kennedys is to return to the small screen in April with a second season. The four episodes of The Kennedys: After Camelot focus on JFK's youngest brother Ted Kennedy.
In April 2011, ReelzChannel's The Kennedys miniseries took viewers back to the 1960s, chronicling the assassination of Robert Kennedy during his presidential campaign, the death of patriarch Joe Kennedy and Jackie's marriage to millionaire Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis.
Now, the US network has a follow-up in store, airing April 2 and 9. Based once again on a book by J. Randy Taraborrelli, The Kennedys: After Camelot will focus on the complex public and private lives of Ted Kennedy, trying to fulfill his family‘s political ambitions after the assassination of his brothers John and Robert.
Matthew Perry has been signed up to play the youngest Kennedy brother, a Massachusetts senator and emblematic figure of the Democrat party. Best known as Chandler Bing in Friends and seen since in The Good Wife and The Odd Couple, the star will portray this particular Kennedy who never managed to follow in his brother's footsteps to Washington, notably after being involved in a 1969 car crash that killed political campaign specialist Mary Jo Kopechne.
This latest season will also touch on the new life of Jackie Kennedy, married by then to Aristotle Onassis. Katie Holmes will be stepping back into her role as the former First Lady, six years after the first miniseries screened. This sequel also sees the former Dawson's Creek star step behind the camera to direct one of the four episodes, leaving the rest to Jon Cassar (24), who directed the first season. — AFP Relaxnews
