RM360m allocated for phase one of MRT safety

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of RM360 million was allocated to provide safety infrastructure for Phase One of the Sungai Buloh-Kajang Mass Rail Transit (MRT) service including the installation of 1,082 units of closed-circuit TV (CCTV) and the use of electronic access system.
Daputy Finance Minister Datuk Othman Aziz said Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) as the operator of the MRT services also allocated RM6.5 million annually to manage the safety system of the public transport service.
"In addition, 91 auxillary police personnel are also deployed to look after security of MRT passengers and assets involving 12 stations and one depot equipped with light arms and walkie-talkie communication sets," he said when replying to Nurul Izzah Anwar (PKR-Lembah Pantai) who asked on the estimated annual allocation for MRT security during the oral question and answer session at the Dewan Rakyat sitting today.
Othman said for Phase Two of the Sungai Buloh-Kajang MRT service expected to be operational in July, a total of 126 auxiliary police personnel would be added to beef up security of the transport service. — Bernama
