10,000 at Johor Sultan’s birthday event

JOHOR BARU: More than 10,000 people thronged Dataran Bandaraya here today for a tea reception held in conjunction with the birthday of the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.
Sultan Ibrahim arrived at the city square at about 3.45pm accompanied by Permaisuri Johor, Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah, Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim and his consort Che' Puan Khaleeda Bustamam, and their daughter Tunku Kalsom Aminah Sofiah, as well as the sultan's other children.
Also present were Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron, state secretary Datuk Azmi Rohani, state executive councillors and senior government officials.
The multiracial crowd present greeted and shook hands with Sultan Ibrahim, and were treated to a spread of Johor traditional delicacies.
The event also featured multiracial cultural performances and songs rendered by popular artistes Dayang Nurfaizah and Hafiz Suip, as well as performers from Yayasan Warisan Johor.
Sultan Ibrahim mingled with his guests for about two hours before leaving at 5.30pm. – Bernama
