LAZADA Malaysia may be a young player in e-commerce here in Malaysia but it has already made a name for itself, popular with online shoppers and the “click-and-buy” consumer.
APPROACH AND PLAN
As of January 2017, reports have it that the e-commerce industry has contributed 5.8% to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and anticipated to further develop at 24% per year, by 2020. Growth is expected to be driven by the Generation Z customer, who will represent 40% of consumers by that year. These savvy group of purchasers will expect e-commerce to be fast, intuitive and engaging.
“Our first five years was about building the fundamentals of e-commerce,” said Lazada Malaysia CEO Hans-Peter Ressel. He shared that the next five will see the company transforming itself into a self-sustaining platform, empowering entrepreneurs to serve the needs of the Malaysians better. “With the increasing sophistication of consumers, Lazada endeavours to provide Malaysian businesses the tools and services required to create a more engaging customer experience, thus, accelerating their business growth,” added Ressel.
FAVOURABLE STRATEGY
To accomplish its plan, Lazada is investing heavily in equipping sellers with world-class logistics solutions, tools in marketing, content management and end-to-end e-commerce services informs Ressel. He says that this will in turn, increase personalisation, shipping options and social engagement, “exciting and delighting the consumer further”.
“This investment will, as envisioned, create new jobs and flourish an ecosystem of entrepreneurs in the filed of logistics, digital marketing, technical development and SME solutions. And these ‘knowledged workers’ with new specialised skills, will play a pivotal role, besides create more opportunities and growth for Malaysians,” he adds.
