BANGI: The Health Ministry is waiting for a decision from Wisma Putra on how to deal with Kim Jong-Nam's body said Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam.
The Health Minister said the Foreign Ministry would issue a statement pertaining to the matter.
"I think they will be making an announcement very soon. The Foreign Ministry and the Prime Minister's department have discussed with various parties including the North Korea government." he said.
"I've been told that they have made a decision, and once the decision has been made, the Health Ministry will go by the decision," Subramaniam said after launching the new building of SJK (Tamil) Bangi here today.
Subramaniam maintained the authorities had done a proper autopsy and matched Jong-Nam's DNA with the his next-of-kin.
He added the ministry had passed the findings to the police for further investigation.
Dr Subramaniam said the fact remained that the North Korean came to Malaysia and died of nerve poisoning and his death had been proven by the toxicology and autopsy report.
"We are consistent and definite with the findings. The case involving the Indonesian and Vietnam women (who were charged with murdering Jong-Nam) will continue," he said.
When asked whether Putrajaya would wait for Jong-Nam's next-of-kin to claim the body, Subramaniam responded in the negative, citing that Malaysia had given ample time for the family to make the request.
He added Putrajaya also had no reason to turn down the North Korean embassy's request to claim the body.
"We have given the next-of-kin a lot of opportunity but they didn't turn up. We have made our decision, and looking at this trend, there's no sign of them coming.
"And like any other country. For example, when an Indonesian dies here, the Indonesian embassy are the ones who assist us in claiming the body. Similarly the case is the same with the North Korean embassy's request.
"Although the case is still going on, there might be requests (from the North Korean embassy) this is why the Foreign Ministry and Prime Minister's Department is trying to find the solution," he said.
Last Feb 13, Kim Jong-Nam was murdered at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) while waiting to take a flight to Macau.

He was approached by two foreign women who wiped the VX nerve agent on his face. Jong-nam who was using a passport bearing the name Kim Chol, died while being taken to Putrajaya Hospital.
