Overwhelming response for CIMB Cycle 2017

KUALA PILAH: About 1,300 cyclists joined the maiden CIMB Cycle 2017 organised by CIMB Group Holdings Berhad in Seri Menanti, Kuala Pilah, today.
The race was flagged off by the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir who was accompanied by the Tunku Ampuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Aishah Rohani Almarhum Tengku Besar Mahmud.
It involved two categories namely the Endurance Ride over 120km and the 35km Challenge ride which was also participated by the Tunku Besar of Seri Menanti Tunku Ali Redhauddin and Tunku Zain Al-'Abidin.
The race also featured national cyclists Azizulhasni Awang and Fatehah Mustapa as CIMB ambassadors in the Challenge Ride.
Tuanku Muhriz and Tuanku Aishah also took part in CIMB Cycle 2017 by cycling for 4km.
CIMB group chief executive, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz said the group was proud to organise the ride for the first time in Sri Menanti.
"Apart from encouraging fun, fitness and philanthrophy, it also fulfills our aspiration to be a responsible corporate citizen by bringing communities together through sports.
"We plan to make CIMB Cycle a yearly event and look forward to having it at different locations within Malaysia and the region," he said in a statement issued to the media.
At the ceremony, Tengku Zafrul handed over a mock cheque for RM120,000 to Tunku Ali as a contribution to Yayasan Munarah.
Apart from CIMB Foundation, 200 bicycles were also presented to students from low-income families around Kuala Pilah.
Cash prizes totalling RM37,000 were presented to winners of the race in the two categories. — Bernama
