myLesen programme to be extended to lorry, bus drivers

TAMPIN: The myLesen programme will be extended to aspiring lorry and bus drivers to obtain the Goods Vehicle Driving Licence (GDL).
Road Transport Department (JPJ) director-general, Datuk Seri Nadzri Siron said for the purpose, JPJ would be cooperating with lorry associations as well as lorry and bus companies.
"The demand for lorry and bus drivers is high and for those who have the GDL we assure they will be able to find employment (as lorry and bus drivers)," he told reporters after closing the myLesen 2.0 programme organised by Negri Sembilan JPJ, with the cooperation of Safe Motoring Driving Institute in Gemencheh, near here, yesterday.
Also present was state JPJ director Azrin Borhan.
Apart from that, Nadzri said JPJ would also be launching myPrihatin on April 15 to give the urban poor the opportunity to obtain a driving licence.
He said more touch points would be introduced to assist those who could not afford to obtain a driving licence.
Meanwhile, he said 141,369 people comprising mostly students all over the country had participated in the myLesen programme up to December 2016, including 3,706 from Negri Sembilan.
In yesterday's event, 400 people including many students from Kuala Pilah and Tampin schools were involved.
The myLesen programme is a mechanism of going to the ground in line with the concept of people-centred civil service launched by the Transport Minister on Sept 15, 2015.
"The programme targets Malaysians aged 16 and above to obtain the B2 motorcycle riding licence. We (JPJ) collaborate with driving institutes to implement the programme in assisting the people, especially school students, to obtain the B2 licence at a discounted rate of RM299 compared to the regular rate of RM360," he said. — Bernama
