KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar today on commercial demand as the greenback lost ground as concerns mounted over President Donald Trump's inability to overhaul the US healthcare system, a dealer said.
At 9am, the local note was traded at 4.4200/4250 against the greenback from Friday's close of 4.4230/4280.
A dealer said the greenback hit a near 2-month low after Trump's healthcare debacle, a major election campaign promise of Trump and his allies.
The ringgit, however, traded lower against other major currencies. It shed against the Singapore dollar to 3.1655/1695 from 3.1600/1651 on Friday and fell against the yen to 4.0051/0114 from 3.9789/9845.
The local note weakened against the British pound to 5.5316/5405 from 5.5248/5328 on Friday and was lower against the euro at 4.7926/7998 from 4.7777/7849. — Bernama
