KUALA LUMPUR: The need to practice moderation or "Wasatiyyah"as a universal value is more relevant in today's world, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
"Wasatiyyah is based on the principle of moderation, balance, excellence and fairness and Malaysia has been acknowledged as a role model of a modern, dynamic and progressive Islamic nation," said Najib in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He was responding to additional queries from Datuk Raime Unggi (BN-Tenom) on Putrajaya's approach in practicing moderation to ensure Malaysia remains peaceful and harmonious.
Najib said Saudi Arabia's ruler King Salman Abdulaziz Al-Saud had praised Malaysia's moderate approach, and has offered a contribution to assist in spreading the approach.
"During his recent visit here, King Salman had praised Malaysia for our approach in moderation.
"He also agreed to establish the King Salman Global Centre for Peace here in Malaysia.
"This is one of the examples on how we can cooperate with other nations to spread the concept of moderation," he said.
Najib added that spreading the concept of moderation can also be very challenging with the presence of militant groups who spread hatred.
Najib added that Putrajaya is also looking at ways to include the concept of moderation in schools and universities.
