KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) met with the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Ismail (pix) at an undisclosed location here today to obtain details of an individual who allegedly offered him RM2 million bribe for a federal honorific title.
MACC commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad and several of his senior officers spend over an hour with the Sultan this morning where the information of the bribery attempt was shared.
The MACC said today in a statement that the individual involved had been identified.
It said a thorough and transparent investigation will be carried out and appropriate action will be taken in accordance to the law.
The commission lauded the Sultan's support for the MACC, commending his commitment to fight and eradicate corruption and power abuse especially in Johor.
The Sultan had revealed last week that he felt insulted when the individual made the offer and suggested he profit from the quota of Tan Sri titles he is granted by the federal government.
Last Saturday, in a statement posted on his official Facebook account under the name Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, the Sultan said he wanted the MACC to meet him immediately so that the matter could be investigated.
Dzulkifli and his accompanying officials had arrived at 8.30am at the appointed location, here, to meet the Sultan, Bernama reported.
However, after the meeting ended about 9.40am, the MACC chief declined to comment on the meeting.
The Sultan left the residence where the meeting was held about 10.20am and he too declined to comment on the meeting, except saying, "I am going shopping."
