Four relatives charged with drug trafficking

KAMPAR: Four relatives, including three brothers, were charged in the Magistrate's Court here today for trafficking in 14.6kg of methamphetamine.
However, no plea was recorded from Muslim convert Kalitazan@Nur Azan Abdullah, 44, his siblings, R. Elanggo, 30 and R. R Viknesswara, 28, and a cousin, B. Kalidass, 41.
The four men, all unemployed, were charged with trafficking in the drugs at a hut in a vacant mining site in Mukim Kampar, Gua Tempurung here, at about 2pm last March 13, 2017.
They were charged under Section 39B(1)(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and face the mandatory death sentence, if found guilty.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Azriah Zaid, while the four accused were represented by lawyers Sukhdave Singh and Keshvinder Singh.
Earlier, Sukhdave Singh applied for his clients to be transferred from the Taiping Prison to the Sungai Buloh Prison to be near their families.
However, Magistrate Nurul Asyifa Redzuan said that it was not under the court's jurisdiction to decide on the matter and advised the counsel to write to the Taiping Prison Director.
The court fixed May 8 for mention pending a chemistry report on the case. — Bernama
