KUALA LUMPUR: Some 14,238 units of Rumah Mampu Milik Wilayah Persekutuan (Rumawip) involving 23 projects are currently under construction and expected to be completed between this year and 2020.
As many as 25,308 units of Rumawip involving 43 projects have been approved, while 26,138 units (44 projects) are still under consideration.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the government is optimistic about the construction of 80,000 units of affordable housing in the Federal Territory by 2020.
"Every house is offered at between RM198,000 to RM300,000 per unit. This shows the government's determination to provide housing at affordable prices to the people," he told the Dewan Rakyat today.
Tengku Adnan was replying to Datuk Ahmad Fauzi Zahari (BN-Setiawangsa) who wanted to know the number of Rumawip that have been and are being built until now.
Tengku Adnan said that from 2013 until Dec 31 last year, 11,627 Rumawip units involving 19 projects were sold.
Of the total, he said, 3,802 units were completed and occupied, 6,990 units had been through the process of signing the sales and purchase agreement, while 835 units were in the process of finalising the sales and purchase agreement.
"The government now plans to build transit homes known as 'Council Homes' in Sungai Udang, Segambut and Sungai Besi for young people who have recently graduated or just got married," he said.
He was replying to a supplementary question from Ahmad Fauzi who wanted to know if the government has plans to increase the construction of affordable housing projects.
About 600 units would be built in Sungai Udang to be rented to the relevant group between RM300 and RM500 a month while the government had identified Taman Mutiara, Wangsa Maju as the new area to be developed under the transit homes project, he added. — Bernama
